Original painting (not a lithograph) by the South Korean Kim En Joong. The paint has dried out a bit and on the left side it has loosened a bit. For this reason you see the bottom red color, which certainly does not make the work less beautiful, but I am happy to pass it along. The work is signed and dates from 1990. More information about the artist: South Korean Kim En Joong (1940) grows up in a society that breathes the spirit of Confucianism and Buddhism. From 1959 to 1963 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in the capital Seoul and after his military service he further qualified in higher art education. Kim comes into contact with Catholicism as a result of the drawing lessons he teaches at the minor seminary in Seoul. Especially the spiritual atmosphere that prevails there makes a deep impression on him. He converted and from 1969 studied theology at the university in the Swiss city of Friborg. A year later Kim enters the Dominicans. Ordained a priest in 1974, he has lived and worked in a Dominican convent in Paris since 1975. Kim's work, in which the artist's oriental roots can still be felt under the skin, has acquired a solid reputation in recent years. It has been shown repeatedly in churches and monasteries and also in the cathedrals of San Francisco (2002), Paris (2003), Chartres, Amiens, Metz and Evry (2005). The artist has had retrospective exhibitions in museums in France and Korea. Also known are the stained glass windows he made for a church in Angoulême (1989) and the cathedral of Evry. In 2005, windows were created by him in Saint Joseph's Church in Paris, the monastery of Ganagobie and the churches of Thorigné and Craintilleux (France). And in 2006, he installed a stained glass window in Chartres Cathedral and was the winner of the competition for the installation of stained glass windows in the Romanesque basilica of Brioude.
