Half-Doll half-figurine of orientalist dancer in porcelain 20th century Germany
A toy, an accessory? This half-doll is much more than that! From the fragile, sophisticated world of early 20th-century German porcelain, this half-doll, also known as the "Half-Doll", is a true collector's item.
Created at the beginning of the 20th century, probably during the period between Art Nouveau (1890-1910) and Art Deco (1910-1930), this porcelain doll bust was not intended for children's play, but for decoration of wooden boxes, textile sewing as a box ornament, or as a doll, but for collection in a shop window. The small holes at the base of the figurine enabled it to be sewn to boxes or made into a doll.
Fine and delicate, the details of this "Lady Figurine" are of unprecedented realism, like a scene from a play where time has stood still. This porcelain represents a woman, a dancer whose physique is inspired by the early 20th century trend for orientalist themes, mixing historical attributes with artistic exaggerations, these ethnically-dressed women were the center of attention, where artists looked to the East, imagining adventures between sand dunes, pyramids and the African savannah. The particularity of this one is that its hat is not polychromed.
