In 1963, Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld designed the “Reply” drafting table for the Dutch manufacturer Ahrend de Cirkel, inspired by the work of Jean Prouvé. This iconic piece of industrial Dutch design was created to meet diverse needs. Thanks to its versatility, the work surface can be set in any position: high for standing work, low for seated work or children's creative activities, and even flat like a regular table.
The easy-to-operate mechanisms, consisting of just two knobs, make it simple to adjust the height and position. The frame of the “Reply” drafting table is made of folded sheet steel, with legs that provide strength and stability during use. The model features a grey lacquered metal frame and a wooden top.
The timeless design of this drafting table was awarded the prestigious “Signe d’Or” design prize in Brussels in the same year of its introduction. With its combination of functionality, elegance, and craftsmanship, the “Reply” drafting table remains an essential piece in the world of industrial design. It is used, and with some careful sanding and wood varnish, it can form a magnificent new worktop.
