Ferdinand Marohn's painting "The Harvest" depicts a rural scene in a field: a group of harvest workers against a wide landscape, rendered in warm shades of brown, ochre, and green. The meticulously rendered figures and the expansive horizon lend the painting a tranquil, narrative atmosphere. Marohn (also spelled Marohn/Maröhn or Maronio) was a 19th-century German genre and landscape painter who participated in exhibitions of the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin from 1839 onward and later exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon. His subjects ranged from Brandenburg landscapes to scenes from Italian folklore; his works can be found in museums in Reims and Ajaccio, among other places. The oil painting is on canvas and set in a profiled frame. It is in authentic, age-appropriate wear with craquelure, minor losses, retouched areas, and foxing in the lower left corner. The work has been partially restored and is suitable for further conservation treatment if needed.
