A beautiful large earlier work by Ella Willemina Koopman. The canvas shows signs of age, but this certainly has its charm. In consultation with the artist, it was decided not to do anything about this. Between 1965 and 1972 she studied painting and sculpture at the Art Academy Rotterdam and at the Rijksacademie Amsterdam. From 1975 she worked as a painter. In the mid-1980s she started experimenting with unstretched pieces of linen, which were given relief by folding, pleating and stitching, after which they were painted. In her vision, the canvases could be hung on the wall like paintings, but could also be used as scarves or shawls or as furniture upholstery. Ella Koopman has collaborated with the American artist Richard Tuttle, with couturiers such as Claude Montana, Frans Molenaar and Mart Visser, with the hat designer Maria Olsthoorn and the shoe designer Jan Jansen. Since 1985, her work has been exhibited in the Westfries Museum, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the TextielMuseum in Tilburg and in New York, among others. Koopman's works can also be found in interiors, such as in the Maagdenhuis of the University of Amsterdam, in cruise ships of the Holland-America Line, in the crematorium in Breda and in the council chamber and restaurant of the town hall of Schiedam.
