This vintage bar carafe is now a highly sought-after collector's item, especially the banjo-shaped musical version.
The piece is made of:
Thick, polished chrome-plated metal
Rigid black plastic on the back of the body
Clear glass for the bottle section, integrated into the handle and main body
The chrome-plated banjo head is removable (lifts up) and allows access to the pourer and filling opening. The carafe is richly detailed and well-constructed, typical of quality novelty items of the period.
A wind-up key on the base activates the internal musical mechanism.
The carafe plays the song "How Dry I Am": the music starts when it is lifted and stops when it is set down. A scenic and fun item, highly prized among vintage barware collectors.
Era and attribution
The carafe dates approximately to the late 1950s.
This piece does not bear the "Japan" mark, however, the model is identical in shape, materials, and mechanism to other known contemporary pieces marked "Made in Japan."
The attribution is therefore based on typological comparison.
Condition
The decanter is in good overall condition, consistent with its age and use, but not in excellent condition.
In particular:
The stopper requires maintenance
The pourer shows signs of aging
There are normal traces of use consistent with an object approximately 65 years old.
Many similar pieces show more obvious damage; this remains a complete and functioning piece, with clearly stated defects.
Dimensions
Overall length: approximately 33 cm
Banjo body diameter: approximately 15 cm
Depth: approximately 6.5 cm
