The work was purchased from the artist himself about 10 years ago.
About Marjanke de Bruijn:
As a former actress, director, domestic manager, initiator, tinkerer, jack-of-all-trades and mother, MUS is now primarily known as a visual artist; imaginative, versatile and with a never-ending passion she paints; "I make so I exist!"
Marjanke de Bruijn graduated from the High School for the Arts Faculty of Theatre and Drama in 1989. In the years that followed she played in small companies throughout the country.
The five children she subsequently had motivated her to start a new school for both elementary and secondary education.
Beginning in 2000, she was captivated by painting. What began at the kitchen table eventually degenerated into a studio where she not only creates her multifaceted paintings, but also carpents couches, saws houses and crafts small furniture into true MUS creations.
On wooden panels she painted to practice to develop her sense of form color and proportion; this with an eagerness that led to the creation of Mus-Atelier in 2006.
She has since mastered a "handwriting" and visual language that is irrevocably recognizable as a true "MUS."
Painting on the border of conscious and unconscious, the images tumble over each other; from chaos to order, she creates a world of images that may be tempered, controlled or free.
Although the starting point is "anything goes," the image approaches completion only when it has passed all criteria regarding balance, aesthetics and originality.
With her background as a theater maker, she creates "worlds" that entice the viewer to recognize and encourage further association.
Or as Mus herself says, "I don't wanna make a dead-end-story, it's just a start!"
