Large 6-panel Chinese Coromandel screen, early 1900s. One side shows a richly detailed palace scene with scholars, symbolic animals, and pavilions. The reverse features painted birds and landscape elements.
Crafted using the Coromandel lacquer technique, which involves deep carving into multiple layers of lacquer and filling the designs with color pigments. Originally used in noble Chinese interiors, these screens later became iconic in European homes.
