Product description
Brand new Longbarn (Brink en Campman) Ripe high mix carpet Color medium grey. Dimensions 250 x 250 cm (custom made dimensions). Ripe: 100% mohair Another quality that Longbarn became famous for is Ripe, a quality of 100% mohair. The word mohair is derived from an Arabic word that roughly translates to ‘choice’. Many people are familiar with the name mohair without knowing exactly what it is. The many possible applications of mohair are also not known to everyone; many will only think of airy, fluffy knitting yarns when it comes to mohair. There are two persistent misconceptions regarding mohair. Some clarification is therefore in order. First of all: mohair is not wool! A goat produces hair, a sheep produces wool. Mohair therefore does not bear the well-known wool mark, but a special mohair mark. The climate, the diet, and the health of the goat influence the quality. The age of the animal is also important; Younger animals produce the finest quality. The soft, fine mohair from young goats is called ‘kid mohair’. Mohair has a number of unique characteristics, such as a beautiful, subtle sheen. The characteristic sheen of mohair can be partly explained by the structure of the fiber: the scales surrounding the fiber are much less developed than is the case with wool and barely separate from the shaft (visible under a microscope). The finer the scales, the greater the sheen. For this reason, mohair has more luster than wool. Mohair has a significantly greater elastic recovery capacity than wool. Moreover, the fibers have less tendency to shrink and felt. Mohair is the most durable animal fiber; mohair fibers are strong and particularly wear-resistant. Mohair fibers are light and soft, yet warm and breathable. New, this quality costs €800 per m² Recommended retail price for this carpet is approx. €5,000 Now for sale for €2,450
