A sculptural handblown vase in optical art glass designed by Anna Ehrner for Kosta Boda.
Anna Ehrner is one of Sweden’s most respected contemporary glass designers and has been a defining creative force at Kosta Boda since the 1970s. Her work is celebrated for its interplay of color, transparency, and optical distortion — qualities that are beautifully expressed in this piece.
Design & Form
The vase stands 20 cm high and measures approximately 12 cm in width. Its softly contoured silhouette enhances the optical effect of the glass, allowing light to refract and shift across the surface.
The interplay between clarity and color creates movement within the material itself — a hallmark of Ehrner’s approach to glass design. The result is both delicate and architecturally composed, combining technical precision with sculptural elegance.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
The last photograph shows a tiny “flea bite” on the *inner side* of the upper rim. This minor imperfection is extremely subtle and practically invisible in normal display. No cracks or repairs.
Collector’s Note
Although this example is unsigned, the design is consistent with Anna Ehrner’s optical glass works for Kosta Boda. The absence of a signature does not diminish its aesthetic or decorative value, but it has been considered accordingly in pricing.
