This is a red clay bowl hand-turned by Bitossi from Italy in an original design by Ettore Sottsass. The handcrafted piece is finished in a two-tone matte white and indigo blue glaze and is thus signed on the bottom with 'E. Sottsass Bitossi Montelupo'. A beautiful item. In mint condition without damage or stains. Dimensions: Diameter 29.5cm x Height 22cm Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) opened his first design studio in 1947 after his studies as an architect. In the years that followed, Sottsass was a progressive designer: the previously gray offices were given more color and a more informal atmosphere due to his designs. In 1981, Sottsass founded an anti-design group called Memphis. They resist the rigid, functional rules of modernism by combining geometric shapes with bright colors and different patterns. The Bitossi family is documented as early as 1536 in the Montelupo Fiorentino region of Tuscany. Their association with Ettore Sottsass began in 1955 and they continue to produce Sottsass designs to this day, all handmade.
