Art Deco Table Lamp, Blue Glass Sphere, Charles Schneider Workshop, 1940s – France
An exceptional table lamp, refined and beautiful, with a curved glass sphere in an exquisite sky blue, adorned with intense blue glass ornaments. The glass was heat-molded, stretching and shaping the motifs, adding a sculptural touch that contrasts with the soft aesthetic of the lamp body. The top is made of gilt brass. A new shade of deep blue fabric has been commissioned, carefully complementing the main piece. This lamp, a testament to the French Art Deco style and crafted in the workshop of Charles Schneider, is a highly decorative piece that brings character and presence to any space. Its beautiful color intensity makes it the focal point of any décor!
Charles Schneider (1881-1953)
Charles Schneider was an Art Deco glass artist, born in Elzas, Germany, in 1881. He later moved to Nancy, one of the most important cities in eastern France at the time. In 1898, he was hired by the Daum glass company, and in 1902 his brother Ernest joined, becoming primarily a business figure, while Charles decided to pursue his creative talents. He began taking classes in engraving, decoration, drawing, and modeling under the skilled tutelage of Henri Berger. In 1904, he applied to the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy and later in Paris. In 1906, he held his first series of exhibitions in Paris. Eventually, Charles and Ernest founded their own company after investing in a small glass factory in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913, under the name 'Verreries Schneider'. In addition to producing the most common types of laboratory glassware and bottles to keep the company financially viable, they began introducing the series of glassware incorporating naturalistic patterns in a new Art Nouveau and Art Deco style with which we are familiar today. Schneider died in 1953.
