This exotic, colonial-style rocking chair has a thick, beautifully patinated, dark brown saddle leather, inlaid with motifs from Aztec mythology, on a chunky, almost brutalist wooden frame. The chair is a design by renowned Ecuadorian designer Angel Pazmino and bears the maker's mark.
Angel Pazmino is considered one of the greatest Latin American designers of the 20th century, and his work continues to influence designers and artisans worldwide. Pazmino began his career at the age of 12 in his father's carpentry workshop. With the skills he gained here, he later opened his own furniture design and manufacturing studio, which quickly became famous for its innovative and elegant creations.
Pazmino's designs have won many awards and honors and have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His work is often characterized by the use of high-quality woods and by hand-carved motifs that reflect Latin American history. Therefore, his style is often described as an interesting mix between modernity and traditionalism.
The item is in good (vintage) condition, with a very solid frame showing hardly any signs of wear. As it is often the case with these chairs, some of the original plugs are missing and have been replaced, but this is not noticeable as these plugs are at the bottom of the chair and only visible when turned upside down. The only real wear to be noted is to the left top side of the seating, as shown in the pictures. This has been repaired by the previous owner, but we would reccomend having it repaired professionally should you wish to use the chair frequently. If this item is only meant for decoration purposes or sporadic use, this is not necessary and the chair can stay as it is. Condition was taken into account when calculating the price.
