Adorable little zoomorphic pedestal from Vallauris, the pottery village near Cannes that Pablo Picasso made world-famous.
Originally, it was a "smoker's foot," a practical and decorative accessory, the most famous example of which is Georges Jouve's Bear Paw.
This one is a more recent piece (late 1960s, early 1970s), made of wrought iron and polychrome ceramic (a very beautiful abstract and colorful work). It is unsigned.
In excellent condition, it would make a lovely trinket tray, ring holder, or plant stand with the appearance of a sculpture.
