A rare and beautiful icon from the golden age of German mid-century modernism. This is an original, adjustable recliner chair designed by Wilhelm Knoll for the legendary Knoll Antimott line (Stuttgart, Germany) from the 1950s. This specific model is a rare appearance and is distinguished by an architectural, sleek frame that is still in excellent, original technical and mechanical condition. The patented Antimott system & Unique construction: • Perfectly working mechanism: By simply pulling the seat forward, the chair smoothly and fluidly reclines into various comfortable positions via the original internal hinge system. • Superior seating comfort with inner spring: No sagging foam, but the original, high-quality interior spring (inner spring) in the loose cushions. This offers unparalleled, resilient and durable seating comfort that was characteristic of Knoll's top segment. • Refined two-tone woodwork: A beautiful, chic contrast between the light wooden supporting frame (solid beech wood) and the elegantly organically shaped, dark armrests. The back legs have the sharp geometric 'kink' so characteristic of Knoll. • Authentic factory features: The unfinished inside of the wooden slatted frame is provided with the original, handwritten assembly numbers (40 and 13), applied during the artisanal assembly in the workshop. • Original upholstery: After removing a later layer, the authentic factory quality woven fabric has become visible again: a beautiful mottled texture in beige, greenish and blue-grey tones, with the original green velour underfabric. Condition of the Recliner Chair: The chair is structurally 100% in order, the woodwork is sturdy and the mechanism runs flawlessly. The woven fabric of the cushions is original and has naturally acquired some natural patina/signs of use over the years. The chair can be placed directly as is for a characteristic vintage look, but due to its perfect technical basis and the existing inner spring, it is also an absolute dream for high-quality re-upholstery (for example, with a modern wool fabric from Kvadrat or De Ploeg).
