Original vintage Kuplat Pendant lamp, designed by Finnish designer Yki Nummi for Stockmann-Orno. Nummi designed the Kuplat in the late 1950s. The design is a beautiful example of his research into light, transparency, and plastic. Two superimposed acrylic shades form a single, seemingly simple spherical shape, completely concealing the light source. This early vintage example has a transparent smoke/brown-grey outer shade and an opal white inner shade. The brass finish at the top creates a warm contrast with the acrylic. When the lamp is lit, the inner shade glows softly, and the light is diffused both downwards and through the transparent outer shade.
The lamp is in neat original vintage condition, with light signs of wear consistent with age and use. The wiring has been renewed with respect for the original design. The original manufacturer's label is still present.
Dimensions are as follows: height 30 cm, diameter 40 cm.
