Product description
Spectacular Limoges porcelain vase, signed and dated. It features an original almond or mandorla shape, with both curved sides converging into a single ridge. Its striking decoration features a cluster of vibrant yellow hibiscus flowers on a white background. On one side, a cluster of vibrant yellow hibiscus flowers is framed by an irregular, asymmetrical gold border or band that runs across the top. On the opposite side, leaves of various shapes, colors, and textures are displayed on an orange background, integrating dark and gold hues with abstract and floral patterns, suggesting inspiration from Japanese art or Art Deco. All hand-painted with exquisite technique. The base reads "Peint à la main. Valbonne 2002. Limoges, France." More about Limoges Porcelain… The history of the most famous French porcelain factory begins in 1768, when significant deposits of kaolin were discovered in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, near Limôges. This delicate white clay would prove decisive in the creation of a porcelain of such high quality that it would come to be compared to china, considered at the time the finest in the world. Thus began the development of a new ceramics industry in Europe. King Louis XVI issued an edict granting the city of Limôges exclusive permission to produce porcelain for the Kingdom of France. Following the French Revolution, several private porcelain factories were established in the city, each identified by a different name or symbol. Today, each of their designs is unique and conceived by true artists. Limôges porcelain is produced in around twenty factories, all located in the Haute-Vienne department. Recognizing authentic Limôges porcelain is very simple: All objects from the French house bear the manufacturer's stamp. Usually stamped in black or blue, this mark can provide very precise clues for dating the piece. Much of Limôges porcelain was made in white and later decorated. For this reason, this stamp was often accompanied by the decorator's stamp.
