Collector's item
This vibrant planter is a fantastic example of West German pottery from the 1970s. Made by MAREI KERAMIK, it features a unique decagonal shape and a striking combination of yellow, black, and green glazes. The geometric shape and bright colors make the planter a striking piece that adds a touch of mid-century modern flair to your home or garden.
About Marei-keramik 1948 – 2016
Marei, located in Rheinbach, was initially part of ES-keramik. They became independent in 1948. In 1948, Josef Emons and Jean Fuss separated, and the Fuss & Emons ceramics factory was split into two.
J. Emons Söhne founded ES keramik (which he continued with), and Jean Fuss & Shon KG founded Majolikafabrik Rheinbach Jean Fuss and Shon (abbreviated Marei).
The name Marei comes from Majolikafabrik Rheinbach.
In 1956, Bodo Mans was employed by Marei. He was one of the most important designers.
Production ceased in 2016.
Signature
Marei usually used reddish clay, but depending on the supplier, this could vary to brown to dark brown clay.
The markings on the base varied widely. Usually, there were no markings at all. The size was indicated as 1/2/3/4.
It is therefore very difficult to attribute their work to their factory.
