Old wooden chest with lid, late 18th century, with iron lock and original key. Rustic oak blanket chest with shaped edges. Beautifully patinated lid with large hinges. The interior contains a small 'candle box' with a lid. Hidden drawer at the bottom with the inscription 'AC Ryckaert den 4 anno 1793 Januarus'. Originating from the Lichtervelde region when it was part of the French First Republic in 1797 after the French Revolution. Probably a dowry chest.
