"Wegging" is the name of this robust sculpture. A sturdy granite plinth supports a stepping stone, which would tip over under its weight if not for a native oak counterweight.
The sloping hollow of the stepping stone provides both lightness and transparency. The polished tongue cavity reveals a bit of the stone's solidified interior. The oak arch, with its opposing curve, creates both a space and a covering. The weight is essential for maintaining balance.
In my work, I often seek a combination of stone and wood, in a way that creates a certain tension between the different materials. I strive to showcase the natural appearance of the material, in terms of color and fracture, wherever possible.
Working in three dimensions is stimulating and very satisfying for me, preferably with the sculptor's original materials – stone and wood.
