The watercolor is 73 years old and has a few light-colored brown spots due to its age. See photos.
Barely visible and otherwise in excellent condition.
This is an original watercolor by the Dutch artist Jan van Riel, dated 1953. The work depicts an atmospheric harbor scene of Spakenburg, a classic subject within the Dutch figurative tradition.
The composition is built up with watercolor paint on paper and shows the characteristic architecture and ships of the fishing village. The color palette consists of warm brown and red tones, combined with soft blue and green accents. The work is signed and dated by the artist in the lower left corner. The piece is presented in a wooden frame with a passe-partout.
The artwork is in good condition befitting its age of over seventy years. The paper has retained its authentic character. The frame provides a fitting and protective setting for the work.
