Product description
Wall-mounted console table, carved and gilded wood, Louis XV, 18th century – France Style: Louis XV / Baroque Materials: Carved and gilded wood, marble top Period: 18th century Country of origin: France Good condition considering its age and use Dimensions: 83 x 100 x 51 cm An extraordinary French Baroque or Louis XV console table in carved and gilded wood, made in the 18th century. It features a voluptuous yet light structure, emphasized by its remarkable cabriole legs, the apron with a large central scallop shell, and the marble top. It has only the two front legs, as the back must be anchored to the wall. This style combines Baroque and Rococo influences, reflecting the opulence and sophistication characteristic of the period. What is most striking is the profuse carved decoration, in which the central element stands out: a decorative motif known as rocaille or coquille in the Louis XV style. This translates as scallop shell or seashell, as it has the characteristic striated and curved shape of a seashell, a very popular element in 18th-century Rococo art. The rest of its structure features stylized and fleshy plant motifs. The Louis XV style is an artistic style, especially prevalent in the decorative arts, that developed during the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774). Initially, the term "Louis XV style" referred to a characteristic type of chair, but it quickly spread to all the arts of the period. This style was created by cabinetmakers as a result of significant technical advancements in the manufacture of wooden furniture. It is closely associated with the architectural style known as Rococo. Like the Rococo style, it features profuse decoration and attention to detail, in contrast to the later, simpler Louis XVI style. Shipping costs will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight, and destination. Shipping costs include professional, custom-made packaging and personalized shipping with tracking and a guarantee.
