Set of 3 original Zulu wall baskets, handmade by female artisans from the Zulu community in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Not only beautiful decoration, but also a piece of living cultural heritage.
Cultural Background
Basket weaving is an age-old Zulu tradition passed down from mother to daughter. In the past, patterns and colors told stories about marriage, fertility, status, or protection. Today, the artisans combine traditional coil weaving techniques with modern designs—a powerful way to safeguard their heritage and income.
The three designs in this set:
- Ø 30 cm – "Isigubhu" (drum/sun) pattern: symbolizing energy and life force
- Ø 25 cm – Classic inkehli shape (black and yellow with knob): refers to hospitality and community
- Ø 17 cm – Spiral "ugesi" (lightning): inspired by the famous telephone wire baskets
Material: 100% ilala palm leaf, hand-painted
Condition: New and never used
