Vitra Waver — design by Konstantin Grcic, 2011. A Vitra Waver swivel armchair in black, with contrasting orange armrest covers. The Waver was the first commercial design Konstantin Grcic created for Vitra, presented in Milan in 2011. Grcic deliberately wanted to move away from any existing armchair typology and sought his inspiration in outdoor sports: windsurfing and paragliding, disciplines in which materials must be extremely lightweight while simultaneously bearing enormous forces. This is reflected in the construction. A single strip of waterproof fabric is draped over the tubular steel frame and suspended at the front by two straps. You sit not *on* it, but *in* it, just as a paraglider hangs in their harness. Despite that single layer of fabric, combined with the seat cushion, it sits just as comfortably as an upholstered armchair. The wide, resilient frame yields as you move, and the chair rotates fully on its four-star base. The sporty color scheme is part of the design: the connections, belts, and armrest covers are deliberately highlighted in contrasting colors rather than being concealed. As a result, the chair reads like equipment, not furniture. Because the upholstery is waterproof, the Waver can be placed indoors as well as on a terrace or in the garden. As a reading chair, in a lounge, waiting room, or showroom. The Waver is no longer in production and has therefore become a collector's item. Condition: good, with minor signs of use.
