The Aluminium Chair is one of the most important furniture designs of the 20th century. Charles and Ray Eames designed and developed this chair in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA). For its construction, the design team deviated from the seat shell principle and instead stretched a strip of fabric or leather between two aluminum profiles for a firm yet elastic seat. The chair conforms to the body and is extremely comfortable, even without extensive upholstery.
