Morris of Glasgow Sideboard: Rare Vintage Zebrano and Walnut Cabinet (1960)
Looking for a statement piece for your home? This vintage zebrano and light walnut cabinet, crafted by the renowned Morris of Glasgow, embodies the elegance of mid-century British design. Dating from the 1960s, this piece boasts exceptional craftsmanship, worthy of suppliers to the Royal Family.
A sophisticated design with Zebrano finishes
The aesthetic of this sideboard is based on a striking contrast of materials. The light walnut front and top harmonize perfectly with the zebrano veneered sides, offering a remarkable linear grain.
The finishing details emphasize its retro appeal:
Sculpted fin-shaped door handles.
A drawer handle with a slender profile.
Clean lines typical of the modernist style.
Storage and Functionality
Beyond its style, this vintage zebrano wood cabinet offers generous and well-designed storage space:
A large double cupboard with a shelf for your bulky items.
A bar area (cabinet with a drop-down door) with harmonious proportions, also featuring a shelf.
A wide, compartmentalized top drawer with wooden dividers and its original green felt lining.
Dimensions of the sideboard: W 167 x D 45 x H 73 cm.
Condition and Restoration
We have carefully restored this sideboard to bring back its original luster. It is in very good vintage condition. After meticulous sanding, we applied several coats of Danish oil to nourish the wood and enhance the grain.
Please note that a minor mark of wear remains visible on the left side. However, it is only noticeable upon close inspection. As with all period furniture, these slight marks bear witness to its history and do not detract from its overall beauty.
About Morris of Glasgow
Choosing this piece of furniture means acquiring a piece of British design history. In 1947, Morris of Glasgow became the preferred supplier to the Royal Family. The brand notably designed the Queen and Prince Philip's bridal suite at Clarence House, using wood from the Balmoral estate.
The manufacturer further cemented its prestige by later furnishing the ocean liner QE2 and winning numerous design awards from 1963 onwards. These creations remain highly sought after by collectors today.
