A beautiful, rare, and completely original modular wall system by William Watting for Fristho (Fristho Franeker). An absolute masterpiece from the heyday of Mid-Century Modern design (1950s/60s).
This system is executed in the highly sought-after and stylish two-tone combination: warm wooden elements combined with contrasting cream-white shelves. The shelves feature the iconic, organically tapered "Watting curves" on the sides.
Layout & Details:
Iconic Secretary Desk / Bar Cabinet: Equipped with a flap featuring a sleek, white work surface/bar area on the inside. Unique: The original working key is still present!
4 Wooden Shelves: In the warm, original wood color.
7 Cream-White Design Shelves: Completely original factory finish with the characteristic open wood grain visible under the lacquer.
Hanging System: Includes the original, beautifully organically shaped metal brackets. The top cream shelf in the middle section features the rare, original white-lacquered factory hooks; the rest is finished in brass.
5 Solid Wood Uprights: Includes 4 long uprights for a floor-to-ceiling configuration and 1 extra shorter upright. This allows for extra flexibility in arranging the setup (for example, under a sloping roof or for a playful, stepped arrangement).
Condition:
The wall system is in beautiful, used vintage condition with a lovely characteristic patina. Naturally, some light, normal signs of age are visible (such as a small chip on a shelf edge), which only underscores the authenticity of this 60-year-old design icon. No parts have been repainted afterwards; everything is in the original condition as it left the factory in Franeker at the time. Dimensions:
