This trio of vintage Chinese Mudmen figures originates from the renowned Shiwan pottery region in Southern China, dating to the 1970s or 1980s.
The set depicts traditional characters from Chinese folklore, specifically a scholar, a musician, and a fisherman, each rendered with expressive detail.
Crafted from ceramic, the figures feature a distinctive combination of glazed and unglazed surfaces. The clothing and bases are finished in vibrant, multi-coloured glazes including blue, green, and brown, while the faces and hands are left in unglazed biscuit porcelain to achieve a more naturalistic expression.
The tallest figure measures 23 centimetres in height, 15 centimetres in width, and 14 centimetres in depth.
The undersides bear impressed numbers in the clay, indicating their artisanal production.
These figures remain in excellent vintage condition, preserving their original character and structural integrity without any chips or cracks. The careful preservation highlights the quality of the Shiwan craftsmanship.
