This decorative school chart illustrates the inheritance of traits in guinea pigs.
Black hair is dominant over white hair. If a black guinea pig is heterozygous (carrier of white), a cross with another black (heterozygous) can produce white offspring (25% chance). Genetics researcher Sewall Wright, among others, conducted extensive research into this from 1920 to 1930. Contemporary breeders still make use of this knowledge.
