The Plia folding chair, designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1967 for Anonima Castelli, is a defining piece of mid-century Italian design. This chair is celebrated for its innovative, patented three-disk aluminium hinge mechanism, which allows the profile to fold completely flat to a thickness of just 5 cm.
Constructed with a sleek chrome tubular steel frame, the chair features a transparent moulded plastic seat and backrest. The dimensions are 75 cm in height, 47 cm in width, and 50 cm in depth, with a seat height of 42 cm. The combination of chrome and transparent materials creates a visually light and modern aesthetic, characteristic of the era's forward-thinking design approach.
The chair remains in good vintage condition, retaining its structural integrity and original character. The folding mechanism operates smoothly, and the chrome frame maintains its bright finish, reflecting its careful preservation over the decades. It still has 3 out of the 4 original translucent floor glides.
Ideal as a minimalist accent piece, a stylish desk chair, or a functional space-saving seating solution, the Plia chair integrates seamlessly into various interior styles. Its transparent design allows it to complement both contemporary and classic spaces without visually cluttering the room.
