Exceptional and rare historical portrait of Léon Bourgeois (1851-1925), Nobel Peace Prize laureate and spiritual father of the League of Nations. This large-format vintage print, dated 1919 (the year of the Treaty of Versailles), is a highly symbolic portrait of Léon Bourgeois, immortalized in his academic gown as a Doctor of Law. This rare attire symbolizes his doctrine of solidarity through law. The signature is significant, making it a rare find on the market. Signed and dated 1919 by Georges Brunel (1860-1951), a member of the French Photographic Society, Brunel was one of the greatest scholars and theorists of photographic processes. True to his theories on the nobility of the image, Brunel had this print entirely hand-enhanced with graphite and charcoal. The print is in very good overall condition for a document over a century old. Sold in a new black-bordered frame. Ultra-secure shipping.
