A powerful and intriguing diptych in ink on Kyro paper by Chinese and French artist T'ang Haywen, untitled and unsigned, dating from the mid-1970s. It is framed in black wood with anti-UV glass. The diptych is 100 cms wide and 70 cms high, the frame 119 cms wide and 89 cms high.
T'ang Haywen was a Chinese and French artist born in Xiamen, China, in 1927. He is known for his mastery of the ancient techniques of Chinese ink painting. Since his death in 1991, T'ang's work has been widely exhibited, including a traveling retrospective at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Singapore Museum of Art, the Museum of East Asian Art in Berlin, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and Taipei, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan. In 2002, a solo exhibition of his work was also held at the Musée Guimet in Paris and at the Shiseido Foundation in Tokyo.
