The icon of Scandinavian modernism. This three-seater sofa, model 0765, was designed by Folke Ohlsson – one of the most important representatives of 20th-century Swedish design, renowned as a master of harmoniously combining elegance with functionality, whose designs have become synonymous with the timeless Scandinavian Modern style. The sofa was designed for the Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen during the 1960s, while Model 0765 was created in the 1950s. It perfectly captures the spirit of the era – its simple form, balanced proportions, and attention to detail make this sofa not only a comfortable piece of furniture but also a collector's item. The distinctive, slightly tapered solid wood legs and subtly angled, high backrest emphasize the lightness of the structure while ensuring stability and comfort. The armrests are slightly rounded. It is upholstered in an original, dark brown fabric. Comfort is provided by soft, well-contoured back and seat cushions. This timeless piece is characterized by the harmonious lines, subtle form, and refined simplicity characteristic of Mid Century Modern style. The 0765 sofa embodies the essence of Scandinavian modernism – an aesthetic based on minimalism, natural materials, and functionality. This Ohlsson design has gained international recognition and become a symbol of the golden age of Swedish furniture design.
This piece is a perfect choice for people seeking unique furniture with history, preserved in its original condition. The Folke Ohlsson sofa fits beautifully into both classic vintage interiors and modern spaces, bringing with it the refined touch of Scandinavian design. It is not only a comfortable and elegant piece of furniture – it is also a timeless design icon that gains value over the years and represents a remarkable investment in functional art.
Folke Ohlsson was born and raised in Sweden. In 1953, he moved to the United States and founded Dux Incorporated, which was a huge success. The designs of Ohlsson's armchairs and sofas are appreciated for their graceful combination of traditional details and modernist simplicity. Accordingly, his work has brought many recognition and awards, including the best design at the 1964 Milan Triennale exhibition, as well as the Royal Order of the Vasa in Sweden, awarded by King Gustav VI Adolf.
Fritz Hansen, also known as the Republic of Fritz Hansen, is a Danish furniture design company whose history begins in 1872 in Nakskov. From the very beginning, Fritz Hansen and his son Christian placed emphasis on the high quality of their furniture, which is their hallmark until the present day. The long list of orders in the first fifty years of the company's operation confirms this. At the beginning of the 20th century, Christian Hansen began experimenting with the steam-bending of beech wood, and in 1915 he created the first laminated chairs, which became the company's specialty. Arne Jacobsen completely dominated the 1950s in the company. He started working together in 1934, but his breakthrough came when he created the Ant laminated chair in 1952. The next projects: Series 7 (1955), Swan (1958) and Egg (1958), which were designed for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, became milestones in the history of Fritz Hansen and are still produced today.
