A unique and authentic art object from Mexico: this handmade armadillo is made of barro negro - the famous black clay from Oaxaca - and signed by Doña Rosa, the legendary ceramist who put this technique on the map worldwide.
Her full name is Rosa Real Mateo de Nieto, a true pioneer. Her discovery in 1950 forever gave a new artistic dimension to this traditional craft.
It is truly a beautiful piece of cultural heritage and rich in detail. A beautifully elaborated and perforated bodice. The glossy finish is characteristic of Dona Rosa's innovative style, where she polished the clay before firing it.
A godsend for lovers of design with a story and collectors of Mexican folk art.
It is in excellent condition!
