Vintage pair of kokeshi dolls by Takeda Masashi (1930-2015).
He was trained as a Sakunami/Yamagata artist in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture. His teacher was Takeda Usaburo, who also mentored Masashi's older brother Shinkichi, who likewise remained a traditional Yamagata artist.
Takeda-san is known for his exceptionally detailed woodcarving and painting, and his beautifully detailed, decorated kimonos with floral motifs. By giving his dolls great character and depth, Takeda-san demonstrates his appreciation for the natural decorative quality of wood.
Between 1967 and 1975, he won numerous prizes at the prestigious All Japan Kokeshi Competition.
The height is 6 cm. Please view the photos for the condition.
Please note: The kokeshi dolls are not new, so there will always be scratches, discoloration, and cracks present to a greater or lesser extent.
