Sato Suigai, born in 1920, was a renowned Japanese craftsman known for his creative kokeshi dolls, called sōsaku.
He received many accolades, including the prestigious Prime Minister's Award in 1966.
His creations are recognizable by their stylish, sleek designs, often adorned with subtle nature themes, abstract leaves, or stylized hairstyles.
His dolls are often "Sōsaku" (creative), meaning they are not bound by traditional regional styles but display their own artistic vision. He mostly used natural materials and refined painting techniques.

The wooden Kokeshi doll is 44.5 cm high, 10 cm deep, and 9 cm wide. At the base, the doll has a diameter of 7.5 cm. The kokeshi is in good vintage condition and signed on the bottom (see photo).
