Vintage Italian cocoon pendant lampshade dating from the 1960s–1970s, featuring a resin-coated frame with pink veining in a classic Mid-Century Modern design. One available.
Produced in Italy during the golden era of Mid-Century Modern lighting, this small cream hanging light showcases the classic and iconic cocoon shape associated with Flos and the Castiglioni brothers. It is created by a special sprayed resin applied over a steel wire framework to create a lightweight sculptural form. The ribbed, yet smooth and symmetrical organic silhouette feels simultaneously airy and architectural, and yet also inspired by nature.
It presents beautifully both lit and unlit as art, and works as a shade for a table lamp or hanging pendant ceiling light. When illuminated, the cocoon shell emits a warm, diffused glow that highlights the texture of the shade and creates a soft atmospheric light, with the delicate marbled red/pink veining throughout the surface creating an incredible texture. The lantern shape and shade texture is also remniscent of Japanese kozo paper lamps by Noguchi.
