Highly decorative vintage hand-painted folding lounge chair, attributed to South Asia (likely Pakistan or Northern India) and dating to the mid 20th century.
The chair is crafted from wood and features a slatted seat and back, richly hand-painted in a deep red colour with repeating floral and foliate motifs in ochre, gold, green and cream. The sculptural carved crest rail, with stylised floral decoration, adds a strong ornamental quality and gives the piece its distinctive character.
A notable and attractive feature is that the chair is fully dismantleable, allowing it to be taken apart for transport or storage — a construction method commonly seen in traditional handcrafted furniture. While originally functional, the chair is now best appreciated as a decorative statement piece.
The chair shows visible wear, paint loss and patina, consistent with age and use. These signs of wear enhance its authentic, lived-in appearance. The chair is structurally stable when assembled but is not intended for intensive daily seating.
A unique and eye-catching object, ideal for eclectic, bohemian, global, or wabi-sabi interiors, as well as boutique or hospitality settings.
