Impressive large vintage Persian Mud rug, featuring the characteristic finely detailed all-over Herati-style pattern associated with rugs from the Mud/Moud region of northeastern Iran. The field is densely decorated with repeating small floral and geometric motifs on a warm cream ground. A particularly attractive deep blue main border with red, ivory and blue floral detailing frames the composition and gives the rug a rich, sophisticated appearance. The original label on the reverse identifies the rug as “MUD” and “HANDGEKNOEPT / REINE SCHURWOLLE”, indicating that it is hand-knotted and made from pure new wool. With its substantial size, this is an excellent statement rug for a large living room, dining room or underneath a substantial dining table.
