Vintage signed Arima-Fude kokeshi. Fude kokeshi are atypical kokeshi dolls that originated in the 20th century and are recognizable by their slender shape, inspired by the Japanese calligraphy brush (fude).
Unlike traditional kokeshi from the Tōhoku region, they do not adhere to a codified regional style but represent a freer production, balancing between Decorative Objects, refined souvenir, and folk art.
Their development is closely linked to Arima Onsen, one of the oldest hot springs in Japan, known not only for its springs but also for its tradition of brush making (有馬筆 – Arima-fude).
This is a bobblehead kokeshi, so the head can wobble and rotate 360 degrees.
The height is 5 cm; please view the photos for the condition. Please note: the kokeshi dolls are not new, so there will always be scratches, discoloration, and/or cracks to a greater or lesser extent.
