Product description
A true collector's item, the Garden Egg chair designed in 1968 by P.Ghyczy incorporates typical characteristics of the era: a space-age inspired design, a UFO shape, portability and the informality of the low seat. It was one of the first chairs made of polyurethane, a key material of the 60's suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, although as a design icon and collector's item, it is rarely used outdoors. As attractive open as closed with its lacquered covering, it is both a functional piece of furniture and a sculptural object. Inside, a soft cushion covered with a carmine-red toned fabric promotes comfort and relaxation. The fiberglass shell shows slight traces of use due to its age. The cushion is in very good condition. Peter Ghyczic's "Garden Egg" chair can be found in the permanent collections of renowned museums around the world, including the V&A Museum (London), the Wende Museum (Los Angeles), the Design Museum Holon (Holon) and the Adam-Brussels Design Museum (Brussels). Closed height: 40; open height 100; Seat height x Seat depth: 30x50cm.
