Vintage, prune drying rack from SW France, circa 1960's.
Known in French as an "Ancien Séchoir à Pruneau", this handmade, wooden drying rack, was once used to dry fresh prunes, as it comes from Lot et Garonne in SW France, which is known for cultivating prunes, and where racks such as this one and many others, are found in different shapes and sizes. This particular one, is smaller than some other ones we've seen. It has a lovely range of rich, warm, brown-colored tones, and a wonderful form that resembles a teardrop, with rounded edges and an angled top (see photos.)
Piece is in overall very good, original and vintage condition with some light marks, signs of age, and previous use commensurate with time, as well as a patina of time on the overall structure, which is to be expected for a piece of this age (see photos.)
A nice decorative object, that will incorporate well with other mid-century, or rustic contemporary pieces, that can be used in a variety of ways: hung upon/propped against a wall or in a corner, used as coffee table decor, as a tray upon which to place objects in a bedroom or bathroom, as sideboard decor, etc.
All photos taken in both natural, outdoor and indoor light, so colors may vary, based upon brightness, reflections, angles and perspective in which they are viewed.
Actual dimensions: Height: 43.5 cm x W: 26 cm across (at widest point) x D: 4 cm
