This is a vintage French coffee table from the 1950s. The black steel frame has a beautiful and rare minimalist design. The colorful ceramic tiles depict a stylized nature scene with deer. Underneath the tabletop is a small platform with woven scoubidou. Completely authentic and intact!
The table is signed JON. It is likely a work by the French artist Georges Géhel, who lived in the northern department of Auvergne in central France.
Nature and animals, and more specifically the Lascaux caves in the nearby Dordogne, are said to have inspired many of his works.
The table is in excellent vintage condition. There are two very fine cracks/fissures in the tilework, and a tiny piece of one tile has broken off. This is almost invisible from a distance. See photos.
