A beautiful and highly collectible set of four vintage Danish Model 84 dining chairs by Niels Otto Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, made in Denmark. With their softly rounded frames, gently curved ladder backs, and restrained proportions, these chairs carry the refined, warm elegance that made Møller one of the most admired names in Danish dining chair design. J.L. Møller’s own brand history describes Niels Otto Møller as the principal designer behind the collection, shaping its aesthetic through craftsmanship and refined simplicity.
Niels Otto Møller trained as a cabinetmaker, founded J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Aarhus in 1944, and became known for an unusually perfectionist approach to construction and finish. Contemporary brand and design-history sources consistently highlight that deep cabinetmaking tradition as central to the character of his furniture, which helps explain why his dining chairs continue to be so sought after today.
What makes Model 84 especially appealing is the balance between softness and structure. The broad upper and lower back slats give the chair a calm architectural rhythm, while the rounded uprights and front legs keep the silhouette warm and approachable.
