Product description
Beautiful set of vintage lounge armchairs, produced by De Ster Geldermalsen in the 1960s. Although the designer has remained unknown, these armchairs clearly demonstrate what De Ster excelled at: combining high-quality craftsmanship with an elegant, organic design language.
This set originates from The Hague and has always remained within the same family. The armchairs were purchased from the granddaughter, who mentioned that for years they held a prominent place in the living room together with the matching sofa (also available). Due to moving in together, they eventually ended up in storage.
The armchairs have been fully restored with respect for the original design and the characteristic patina. The solid teak frames have been carefully cleaned and refinished, allowing the wood to regain its warm appearance. Structurally, both armchairs are once again in excellent condition. A few minor signs of use have been deliberately retained; they actually contribute to the authentic character of the armchairs.
Both armchairs are fitted with new, sturdy webbing and completely new cushions with high-quality foam. The cushions are upholstered in a rich ochre-yellow wool fabric that beautifully complements the era in which the armchairs were designed. Furthermore, this warm color forms a particularly beautiful contrast with the teak wood and emphasizes the elegant, organic lines of the frame.
And then there is the frame… that is without a doubt the highlight of these armchairs. The gracefully intersecting joints, flowing armrests, and organically shaped legs give the whole piece an almost sculptural appearance. From every angle, you discover a new line or connection. Together with the generous cushions and the slightly reclining seat, this results in an armchair in which you can effortlessly spend an entire evening. An exceptionally fine set that beautifully combines craftsmanship, comfort, and timeless Dutch design.
