Product description
Beautiful vintage armchair, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the Wébé furniture factory in the 1960s. This model with the short backrest was often described at the time as a ladies' armchair, but of course, it is just as comfortable for gentlemen.
This armchair comes from the heirs of the first owners from Breda. After it had been stored in the attic for years, the family decided to sell it. And I say 'it', because in addition to this armchair, there was also a separate seat present, without a frame! There must be a special story behind that.
Once it arrived at our workshop, the armchair was completely restored. The teak frame was thoroughly cleaned and refinished, bringing back the original, warm, and atmospheric look from the 1960s. A nice detail is that the veneered armrests are slightly lighter in color than the frame, creating a subtle yet beautiful contrast.
Upon arrival, the armchair was upholstered in a fabric with a floral pattern, and yes, that was a bit too daring for us. During the reupholstering process, the original petrol-green fabric was revealed. Unfortunately, it was in too poor a condition to be preserved and therefore had to be replaced. Consequently, the seat was rebuilt from the ground up using new webbing, foam, dacron, fabric, and buttons. The result is an exceptionally comfortable seat, exactly as you would expect from a design by Van Teeffelen. The soft, ochre-yellow bouclé fabric gives the armchair a cozy, lively appearance and combines beautifully with the dark teak wood.
The design of the frame is typical of Van Teeffelen: elegant, chic, and thought out down to the last detail. Place this next to other armchairs from the same period, and you will immediately recognize his hand. An armchair you sit in for a moment in the morning and, before you know it, spend the rest of the day in. Designed with Danish aesthetics as inspiration, yet truly a beautiful example of Dutch design.
