Vintage 70s Kokeshi from Tazawako by Hiroshi. This type of doll deviates from traditional toy forms and falls under modern or creative kokeshi (Sosaku kokeshi). The hand-carved, faceted wood gives the doll a unique texture and character. She has black hair with subtle dots on the side, a sweet red heart as a mouth, and a simple, minimalist facial expression. The red stamp on the base indicates its origin or region, namely Tazawako (田沢湖), a beautiful mountain lake area in Akita Prefecture, Japan, known for its traditional wood carving and kokeshi culture. The date this kokeshi was made: (Showa 47 nen) – This is the year, or the 47th year of the Showa era. That corresponds to the year 1972. (Shichigatsu) – This means the 7th month (July). I read the maker's signature as: "Hiroshi". It is a beautiful little artwork with an authentic, artisanal Japanese background! The height is 9 cm, for the condition please view the photos. Please note: kokeshi dolls are not new, so there will always be scratches, discolorations, and/or cracks to a greater or lesser extent.
