This vintage secretary and sideboard from the 1960s combines functionality with a sleek, geometric design. The design is characterized by an asymmetrical layout and a striking contrast between the dark base and the light worktop, typical of the modernist style of that period. The furniture is crafted from wood and finished in a combination of dark brown and white. It features a fold-down worktop that serves as a desk, with hidden storage compartments behind it. Below this are two drawers with wooden interiors and open shelves for additional storage space. The round wooden handle on the flap adds a subtle detail to the otherwise minimalist design. The secretary is in good condition, commensurate with its age and use. The construction is sturdy, and the drawers and flap function properly. The piece has retained its original character. This versatile piece is ideal for a home office or living room where space conservation is desired. It fits perfectly into a mid-century modern or eclectic interior and offers both a practical workspace and stylish storage. It was commissioned in the 1960s by design furniture store De Vrij in Leeuwarden. It had to match a desk by designer Kho Liang Ie that was already in their possession.
