Product description
Beautiful vintage armchair, model 1611 Lotus, designed by Rob Parry and produced by Gelderland in the 1960s. This model is a refined evolution of the original 1611 armchair from 1952 and stands out due to its slender, airy metal frame, which replaces the all-wooden frame of the earlier model.
This chair comes from Bergen op Zoom and was originally in poor condition: the seat was missing, the webbing was broken, the wood was heavily soiled, and the metal frame showed countless scratches and damage.
After a complete and meticulous restoration in our workshop, this Lotus is back in top condition. The metal frame has been repainted, allowing the sleek, minimalist lines to come fully into their own. The walnut armrests have been stripped and refinished, making the warm, vibrant grain fully visible again. A detail that absolutely catches the eye and forms a refreshing contrast with the black lacquered wood behind it. The seat, the characteristic ‘mattress’, has been renewed with high-quality foam and upholstered in a deep, dark blue wool fabric. This rich hue gives the armchair a stylish and luxurious appearance and forms a beautiful contrast with the sleek metal frame. The seat rests on new, sturdy Pirelli webbing, the same type that was originally used.
As you would expect from a Rob Parry, this chair is exceptionally comfortable. In his designs, the human being was always central: functionality took precedence, followed by design. It is truly the kind of armchair in which you can effortlessly relax and lounge all day long. Timeless, elegant, and a beautiful example of Dutch design from the 1950s, ready for many more moments of relaxation.
