This American oak grain chest was manufactured around 1900/1910 in Montpelier, Ohio, by W.C. Heller & Co., a company that still exists today. The chest was purchased in the early 20th century by the Groningen Grain Republic in the Netherlands to store and archive seeds from local farming families. The drawers are made of zinc to protect the seeds from mice and rats.
